I get it. I feel it too. The desire to connect in a world where connection has been cut off. Everything we looked forward to has been canceled. There’s a big, bad virus threatening our health and we can’t do the things we wanted to do, see the places we wanted to see, or enjoy others’ company. As humans, we’re a little scared, kinda angry, and a lot disappointed.
Now add TCKs to the mix, and we get a bunch of kids living overseas and a whole lot of big feelings. We get unsaid goodbyes. We get isolation in a country that’s not their home (or is it? They don’t really know either!). We get an abrupt halt to what was going to be a new beginning in a new country and no access to meeting new friends. We get sadness and a deep loss of connection.
But what if I told you that not all connection is lost? What if I told you there’s another solution? That there’s still a way to make new friends? That you don’t have to feel isolated, even if you can’t leave your house all day? And that there are other kids out there, who are just. like. you. ?!
Let me tell you, you’re not alone–and Kaleidoscope has come up with a new way to connect in these crazy times! GUIDE GROUPS ARE HERE!! It may not be the in-person conference you’re used to, but the heart of the matter is still there, and processing allllllll the big feelings is so important–maybe now more than ever.
I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of Guide Groups for the past month, and my TCK heart is full. I have loved meeting the kids where they’re at and processing whatever it is that they’re feeling. I’ve heard stories, I’ve laughed, and I’ve learned how to connect over zoom (don’t worry, it’s not too hard). I’ve also cried and felt loss, and it’s okay to feel these things, too. You are not alone.
If you’re a TCK looking for connection, this is for you. If you’re an adult TCK looking to invest in younger you’s, this is for you. Or if you’ve never been out of the country and just have a big heart for kids, this is for you, too!
In a world full of canceled plans, take heart! Guide Groups won’t cancel on you. We’re TCKs. We got this.
In a Guide Group, your TCKs will join 6 to 8 of their peers for one hour a week for 6 weeks to laugh, connect, and learn together. Ready to connect? Click the button below!
